Any animal lover would love these cards as the likeness to the animals with human qualitys portrayed on the cards is very good, having said that the only card that looks a bit odd to me is the Queen of Wands, as it is a very slim looking Koala, which as I am from Australia can tell you they are short and stout and very grumpy creatures that sleep and eat all day! The Queen of Swords is very adaptly portrayed I think by a Praying Mantis scince this card often represents a rather cold quick witted person who is very often a widow, well the Mantis does bite the heads off the male they are mateing with!
The colors are very rich and pleasant to read with, the cards themselves are smooth and make shuffling very easy. The pip cards don\'t always have the suit they are representing on the card, for example the 7 of Pentacles shows a Honey Badger at the foot of a tree collecting honey in a bag, with a bird flying overhead with a piece of honeycomb in it\'s beak. Not a Pentacle to be seen but in the top left hand corner of the card there is a beetle which represents the symbol of earth, pentacles, a butterfly for the symbol of air, swords, a crab for the symbol of water, cups and a salamander for the symbol of fire wands. I think these symbols are a good trigger if you are a beginer and have trouble in remembering what the different suits mean.
It would help if you had a general knowledge of what the different animals mean in a divinentory sense as the 6 of Swords show 6 Gnu walking across water I have never heard of a \"Gnu\" but they look like a type of Buffalo only smaller with horns but the meaning of the card is not lost as it clearly shows travel across water, moving towards calmer times ect. These cards are alot easier to read with than The Druid Animal Oracle which I also have as the animals are from all over the world and not just from a Celtic divinetory regard.
I think it would help to have a basic understanding of the general meaning of Tarot cards before you atempt to read with this deck, as the meanings are not portrayed in a Rider-Waite sense. To give an example of this the 9 of Pentacles shows a mother Panda Bear holding her baby wrapped up in a blanket, as she sits on a tree trunk with a Parrot sitting on a bamboo near her right shoulder, not a richly adorned women with 9 Pentacles around her and a elaborate bird on her finger.
I have only had these cards for a little over a week but have thoroughly enjoyed reading with them, they come with the tradtional little white book with a very abbreviated meaning for each card, and what the animal is, so if you don\'t know what the animal is, it will tell you and you could do a search on the internet for further research into what the card/animal is trying to tell you. Enjoy!
