I love the idea of Feng Shui. The idea that the placement of objects and knowing what to add or take away from a living space will bring balance, harmony and good fortune to the space. When I heard about a Tarot deck based on Feng Shui I was intrigued. Mind you, I am not well versed in Feng Shui. I wondered if the deck would work well for someone like me, who was basically a pre-schooler when it came to this ancient Chinese art. Armed with only the deck and the little white book I set off on an adventure into the sensual world of the Feng Shui Tarot.
At first glance the deck is just beautiful. Brightly colored paintings invite you into an exotic landscape populated by mythological creatures. The Green Dragons that stand for the suit of Pentacles are whimsical yet dangerous looking, but seem to romp across the fields with a mildly comical finesse. Dragons as Pentacles? What a surprise. I was equally delighted to discover that the Black Tortoise stands for Wands; the White Tiger for the suit of Swords and the Red Pheonix for Cups.
I know that many reviews about Tarot decks begin with the Majors, however I found myself pretty interested in the Minors of this particular deck. I am captivated by the idea that the suits of the cards have come to life. In the more traditional Tarot decks I have used Cups are Chalices or Vessels or Cauldrons. But for Cups to equal the Red Phoenix brings an animation and vitality to the suit that is very compelling and leads the reader to discover an entirely new way of looking at the cards. Rather than looking at inanimate objects and using the typical associations for the suits, you are now looking at living, breathing creatures and anticipating their reactions to the scene and their relationships to the people populating this new world. Very enigmatic formula for the minors.
I admit that the deck does not read well for me. I could not really get the creatures to work for me when it came to the nitty gritty of reading the cards for others. I admit this disappointed me, but not being a student of Feng Shui perhaps this was to be expected. Even reading the cards from a purely intuitive standpoint felt a bit stale.
So, not for the beginner, but as a collectible deck, this one is a beauty.

A very beautiful deck creating a sythesis of tarot and Feng Shui (it is helpful to know your tarot and Feng Shui well to get the most of this deck).
Tasteful art, cards looking like Chinese scrolls.
